Brains and Grains – Ominous Link

“For the sake of your brain, eliminate the grain!”
 ~~~
I’ve been interested in brain studies — especially as they relate to learning — for a decade now. For me, there is no conflict for Christians between the healthy functioning of material brains and the healthy functioning of immaterial minds. We were created to live in a material world (by means of a material brain), and to live in union with an immaterial God (by means of a spiritual mind). Even secular scientists have been forced to admit, based on evidence from research, that the “mind operates beyond the laws of biology.” That’s as close as a secularist can come to speaking of super- (“above”) natural (“biology”) realities without actually using the “dreaded and unscientific” word “supernatural.”
But brain health is important so long as we live in a material world. Our brains process all incoming (material) signals, and processes them for decision-making that is connected to the world we live in. And brain health is connected in very real ways to . . .
. . . what we eat and drink.
Here is a helpful article (<click the link) describing the impact that addictive grains have on the brain, and the measurable brain benefits we can derive from eliminating them from our diets.
While giving up the goodies we all grew up loving — around which our favorite family traditions and church socials revolve — sounds “impossible” to do, I can attest to the fact that once freed from their addictive grip, life runs along just fine — better! — without them.
I cannot imagine trading the 47-lb weight loss, significantly improved mood and energy levels, and freedom from hunger and food cravings, for a slice of pie, a chunk of cake and ice cream, an English muffin, or a bowl of chips. I have “enjoyed” finding my “joy” in things unrelated to food at all — though I must admit I found some serious joy in a double serving of Meaty Eggplant Lasagna last night that was both grain-free and indescribably delicious. :>)
